Thoughts

I agreed to read and review this book because I loved the sound of real-life women creating stories of bravery and inspiration. These three touching short story's deal with a character handling a devastating disease, a character trying to build family and one reconnecting after a strained relationship. While based on true events, the novel is set in a fiction world and reaches out to readers in a way that shows us how we can help people suffering with each circumstance or even apply things to our own lives. With its message of love, hope and inspiration, More Than Words is a perfect summer read.

3.5/5- Women's Fiction

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead
Published August 25th 2009 by Razorbill
Bought/Nook Edition

Well~ after the shocking end in book three, which left my mouth hanging on floor, thinking OH NO its another Buffy/Angel season 2!!!! I was flung into an intense, sometimes depressing world of Strigoi hunting, the bitterness of loss and the cold of Russia. A few parts made me want to cry and then I was like, um this is fiction vampires-stop being a baby!!!

Needless to say while I thought this was really good, Im glad to be out of Rose's "New Moon" phase, while Rose faced a much darker version of "my boyfriend left me and now Im down in the dumps" she still managed to kick major butt (except for those few chapters with Hot D er..Scary D....eke...that was Rose at her worst..!!)

Things are complicated, tangled and messy in Blood Promise, loneliness, isolation and imprisonment reek off the pages but that cant keep our girl Rose down, her strength shines through and ends with a great cliff-hanger.

Rating

Blood Promise is a book aimed at a mature audience, thus far book 4 was the most graphic in sexuality, violence and sadistic nature. I would not recommend this for young teens.

Clean by Amy Reed

Review Copy/Galley Grab

A harsh look at rehab for teens who need a good lesson in how not to talk at a job interview.......of course saying the F- word is a tame reality compared to what some of them are actually dealing with.

I think this was probably an honest look at separate teen characters dealing with addiction issues, however the language in the novel took over the story so much I lost interest in what they were trying to tell me.

Not that language bothers me...but when we have it on every page multiple, triple times in each paragraph, that's just annoying. Teenagers have much more to offer than just the F-Bomb.  This is my second Amy Reed novel and for me personally this author is just not for me.

2/5- YA-Contemporary-Drug Issues
Thanks to Simon and Schuster for Galley

  2. Great reviews and totally agree with you about the F-bomb in books. Teenagers are more than that too :)

  3. Good point, T. Teens have much more to offer than crude speak. That would have distracted me too.

I really need to get on those VA books asap! And I call myself Team Vampire! For Shame.

  5. Language doesn't bother me either. When it doesn't add to the story except being there, then that gets really annoying. I'm thinking "Clean" is just not for me. Thanks for the review!
