TGIF {3} DNF Books

Welcome to Tgif- a weekly meme hosted and created by Ginger at Greads! Tgif lets us wind up the week and also asks a weekly question pertaining to books, blogging or what have you. This weeks question:

Blogger Confession: What's the last book you could not finish?
(or had a hard time finishing?)

As a book blogger Ive noticed my time is much more precious as well as my time limit for a book. My rule was always 100 pages, but lately in the cascading tower of TBR novels hitting my doorstep I can tell within the first few chapters if the book is going to be for me. Recently I have set down:

1. World War Z by Max Brooks
2.Switched by Amanda Hocking
3. Fallen by by Heather Terrell
4. Chime by Franny Billingsley (going to try this one again)
5. The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey

This Week at Tinas!!

The Saturday Spotlight- Win a copy of Time Passes Like Rain
Monday Bites- Twilight Discussion
Shelf Cravings
Review- Ultraviolet

Have a great week everyone!

  1. I haven't tried any of those, but I have Chime on my bookshelf. I think maybe it will stay there a little longer:) I have a hard time not finishing books, and whenever I make it all the way through I think to myself that I should have just set it aside and called it a loss. Don't know why I don't actually do that:)

  2. I keep hearing mixed things about Switched. Some really like it and other can't even finish it. How curious.

I need to adopt that rule. You're right, reading time is precious and I spend way too much time trying to power though a book that isn't really for me.

    Happy Friday, T!

Ack, I probably should have left World War Z unfinished but my stubbornness was at its worst with that one. I thought it would be a lot less...dry than it was. Hopefully the upcoming film adaptation will be more exciting, haha.

    Have a great weekend!

I haven't read any of those books yet but I can understand that book time is starting to get limited :P

  6. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I actually made myself finish Fallen Angel by Heather Terrell. It was pretty bad though. The only good thing was the final battle scene, but the rest was awful.

    Have a nice weekend!

  7. @Jenny- I used to be the same way...but now I just dont have time to finish the ones that are lagging, pissing me off or just bad...

@Missie- So Switched was bad from sentence one...I gave it four chapters and turned the Nook off...

@Steph- Im looking forward to the movie...Brad Pitts in it...:)

@Vy &Erin - Thanks for stopping by and thanks Vy for following..:)

@Jennie- And see I disliked the Terrell novel so much I forgot what the title was...lol

  9. @Missie- LOL, Maybe just maybe you'll like it...the love scenario shows up on page 2 and I was annoyed from there on out...I think book blogging has made me jaded, if its mediocre Im done.....:P But the one thing I can say is the author launched her career by Kindle- thats impressive..

I got through Chime, but I didn't like it all that much. I thought the author tried too hard to make the writing "pretty." It got in the way of the plot.

Also, you mentioned on Parajunkee's BB101 post that you can't believe some of the things you wrote in your earliest reviews...I just went back and read your first few reviews out of curiosity and I thought they were great. All your reviews, new or old, give your reader an idea of what you did and didn't like about a book. Great blog :-)

  11. I just "sat down" World War Z a few days ago. I haven't given up -- but I needed a break. I'm going to try it in a couple of weeks again. But I LOVED Monstrumologist! Very gory though.

This happens to me alllll the time. Last one? Skipping a Beat. I could not connect with the main character.

  13. Aww, sorry to hear you couldn't make it through World War Z. I'm not a huge zombie fan, but I ended up loving Brooks' wacky take on a zombie apocalypse.

Last book I gave up on was Brisngr by Christopher Paolini. The MC, Eragon, kept going on for pages and pages about how bored he was. Needless to say, so was I. :S
